How Our Physiotherapy Works
Getting started is simple. Here is what you can expect from your first appointment through to recovery:
Assessment
Your first appointment is a relaxed, one-to-one consultation with one of our chartered physiotherapists. We take the time to listen to your symptoms, understand your history, and learn what you want to get back to, then carry out a physical assessment to build a clear picture of what is going on.
Personalised Care Plan
Based on your assessment, your physiotherapist will explain what they have found in plain, straightforward language and put together a care plan built around you. This sets out your goals, the approach we will take, and a realistic timeframe so you know exactly what to expect from the outset.
Treatment
Depending on your condition, your treatment may be resolved in a small number of focused sessions or may follow a structured course of ongoing rehabilitation. Each session combines hands-on therapy with guided exercise, always targeting the root cause of your problem rather than just the symptoms.
Home Exercise Plan and Follow-Ups
Between sessions, you will be given a clear and manageable home exercise programme to keep your recovery on track. We review and update this at each follow-up as you progress, making sure the plan continues to work for you at every stage.
Ongoing Prevention
Once you have reached your goals, we do not just send you on your way. Your physiotherapist will equip you with the knowledge and tools to stay well, prevent recurrence, and maintain the progress you have made, so you can get on with life feeling your best.
Conditions We Treat
Back and Neck Pain
- Back and neck pain can range from a dull, persistent ache to sharp, debilitating discomfort and it rarely resolves on its own without understanding the cause. Whether your pain stems from posture, a sudden injury, or the cumulative strain of daily life, our physiotherapists get to the root of it and use hands-on treatment combined with targeted exercise to relieve pain and keep it from returning.
Joint and Muscle Injuries
- Shoulder, knee, hip, and ankle problems can quickly erode your ability to move freely and get on with everyday life. From sprains and strains to tendon injuries and persistent stiffness, we assess the full picture not just the site of pain and guide you through a structured rehabilitation programme designed to restore strength, function, and confidence in your body.
Sports and Running Injuries
- Whether you are a weekend runner or a competitive athlete, an injury that sidelines you needs more than rest. We treat it effectively, and build a return-to-activity programme that not only gets you back to sport but reduces the risk of the same injury happening again.
Post-Surgery and Post-Fracture Rehabilitation
- Recovering from an operation or fracture takes more than time; it takes a carefully graded programme that rebuilds strength and restores movement at the right pace. We work closely with your wider care team to ensure your rehabilitation is well coordinated, progressing safely from the earliest stages of recovery through to full function.
Arthritis and Long-Term Pain
- Living with persistent joint pain or stiffness can gradually chip away at your independence and quality of life. Rather than simply managing symptoms, we focus on practical exercise, education, and self-management strategies that give you real, lasting control over your condition so you can stay active and do more of what matters to you.
Balance, Mobility and Falls
- A decline in balance or mobility can affect your confidence long before it leads to a fall. We assess what is contributing to the problem, provide targeted treatment, and design personalised programmes to improve your strength and coordination whether that is here in the clinic or in the comfort of your own home.
Orthotic Prescription and Footwear Advice
- Problems with your feet or lower limbs can have a ripple effect throughout your body, contributing to pain in your knees, hips, and back. We assess your movement and alignment in detail and recommend appropriate orthotics or footwear adjustments that support your recovery and help prevent further issues down the line.
Customised Exercise Prescription
- No two people recover in exactly the same way. We take the time to understand your individual needs, goals, and lifestyle before designing an exercise programme that is realistic, structured, and built to progress with you building strength, restoring function, and supporting your long-term wellbeing.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need a GP referral to see a physiotherapist?
If you already have a GP referral, we are happy to work from that. If you do not have one, that is not a problem either. Our GPs at Link Healthcare are on hand to assess you and refer you directly to our physiotherapy team, keeping everything under one roof and making the process as straightforward as possible.
How many sessions will I need?
This depends on your condition and how you progress through treatment. Your physiotherapist will give you a clearer picture after your initial assessment and will continue to review your plan as you move forward, adjusting it to reflect your progress at each stage.
Do you work with private health insurance?
Yes, you can claim physiotherapy sessions through your private health insurance. We recommend checking your policy in advance as cover varies between plans. If you have any questions about what you are entitled to, feel free to contact us before your appointment and we will do our best to help.
Can I access physiotherapy at home if I cannot travel to the clinic?
Yes. If you are unable to attend the clinic, we can arrange for a physiotherapist to visit you at home. This is particularly suited to older adults, those recovering from surgery, or anyone with mobility difficulties. Get in touch and we will find the best option for you.
How much does a physiotherapy session cost?
A physiotherapy session costs €65. You can claim sessions through most private health insurance policies, and we provide receipts for your claim.
How quickly can I get an appointment?
Appointments are usually available the same day, including evening and weekend times, so you can be seen without taking time off work.
What are your opening hours?
The physiotherapy clinic is open Monday to Friday 5pm to 9pm and Saturday and Sunday 10am to 5pm, at Link Healthcare in Ballincollig, Cork.
What happens at my first appointment?
Your first session includes a full assessment of your condition, movement and history, followed by the start of treatment and a plan agreed with you, including exercises to continue at home. Wear comfortable clothing that allows access to the area being treated.
What conditions do you treat?
We treat back and neck pain, joint and muscle injuries, sports and running injuries, post-surgery and post-fracture rehabilitation, arthritis and long-term pain, and balance and mobility problems. If you are not sure physiotherapy is right for your issue, contact us and we will advise you.
