Frequently Asked Questions
Can I take only one module?
Yes. Candidates may enrol for individual modules or take all four modules. Individual modules are available at €250 each, making it easy to target only the areas where you need support, particularly useful if you have already achieved your target score in certain sub-tests.
How many hours are included?
Classes are held on alternating Saturdays and Wednesdays throughout the 8 weeks. Each Saturday session runs from 9:30am to 5pm (with a 90-minute lunch break) and each Wednesday session runs from 4pm to 8pm. The Saturday and Wednesday classes are 4 days apart, and after each Wednesday there is a 10-day break before the next Saturday, giving you time to work, review and prepare before the next class.
What is the class size?
Classes run with a minimum of 4 candidates and a maximum of 12 candidates per group. This small group format ensures every candidate has the opportunity to receive individual attention, personalised feedback and sufficient speaking practice time throughout the course.
Are courses profession-specific?
Courses can be tailored for the relevant OET healthcare disciplines based on demand and group composition. Where enough candidates from the same profession are enrolled, Writing and Speaking practice in particular can be adapted to reflect the scenarios and communication styles relevant to that discipline.
Which professions are covered by OET?
OET is tailored to 12 healthcare professions: Medicine, Nursing, Dentistry, Dietetics, Pharmacy, Physiotherapy, Podiatry, Radiology, Occupational Therapy, Veterinary Science, Optometry and Speech Pathology. All 12 professions are eligible for this course, subject to group demand.
Do I need a minimum level of English to enrol?
Yes. Candidates must provide proof, dated within the last three months of a minimum B2 CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference) level of English prior to enrolment. This ensures all students are at a suitable starting point to benefit fully from the course content.
Will I receive a certificate when I complete the course?
No certificate is awarded upon test completion. This is a preparatory course designed to help you perform at your best in the OET exam, which is taken separately through an official OET test centre. It is the OET exam result itself that provides the recognised proof of English language competency required for professional registration and employment.
Who teaches the course?
The course is taught by Sandra Walsh, a qualified teacher of English as a second language (CELTA, UCC), a certified OET teacher, and a qualified barrister with extensive experience working directly with medical professionals and reports. Sandra also holds a Masters in Translation Studies. If you have any questions before enrolling, you can contact Sandra directly at sandra.walsh@linkhealthcare.ie.
What materials do I need?
All class materials are provided by the trainer each week. Candidates are welcome to source additional study materials for independent practice if they wish, but there is no requirement to purchase anything separately before the course begins.
