Terms & Conditions

Below is a jurisdictionspecific set of patient Terms & Conditions for Ireland, explicitly aligned to:

  • Medical Practitioners Act 2007 (as amended) 
  • Medical Council – Guide to Professional Conduct & Ethics (9th ed., 2024) 
  • HIQA regulation of medical exposure to ionising radiation 

This works for Link as a private diagnostic imaging provider, where scans are performed and clinical reports are issued, but diagnosis and treatment remain the responsibility of the referring clinician.

1. ABOUT US

We provide private diagnostic imaging services, including Echo  and ultrasound scans (“Scans”).

All clinical services are provided in accordance with:

  • The Medical Practitioners Act 2007.
  • Standards and guidance issued by the Medical Council of Ireland.

2. Acceptance of These Terms

By booking or attending an appointment, you confirm that:

  • You have read and understood these Terms & Conditions.
  • You consent to the provision of the scan on this basis.

If you do not accept these Terms, you must not proceed with the scan.

3. Scope of Services

Our service is limited to:

  • Performing a diagnostic scan; and
  • Issuing a written clinical imaging report where applicable.

We do not provide diagnosis, treatment, or clinical management.

Responsibility for diagnosis, treatment planning and followup rests with:

  • Your referring medical practitioner; or
  • In selfreferral cases, a medical practitioner chosen by you.

4. Registered Medical Practitioners

All medical reports are prepared and authorised by Registered Medical Practitioners who are:

  • Registered on the Medical Council register.
  • Practising within their scope of professional competence.

Medical practitioners involved in your care are subject to:

  • The Medical Practitioners Act 2007.
  • The Medical Council’s disciplinary and fitnesstopractise framework. 

5. Referrals & Clinical Information

Certain scans require a valid referral from a medical practitioner or other authorised healthcare professional.

You must provide accurate and complete clinical information, including:

  • Medical history.
  • pregnancy status.
  • implants or medical devices.
  • previous relevant imaging.

We may cancel or refuse a scan where:

  • required referral or information is missing.
  • proceeding would pose a clinical or safety risk.

6. Consent

Your consent is required before any scan is performed.

Consent is obtained in line with Medical Council guidance on:

  • Informed consent.
  • Capacity.
  • Withdrawal of consent. 

You may withdraw consent at any time before the scan commences.

7. Diagnostic Reports & Results

Reports describe imaging findings only.

Reports:

  • Do not constitute a diagnosis.
  • Must be interpreted by a medical practitioner in the context of your full clinical history.

We are not responsible for clinical decisions made by third parties based on the report.

8. LONISING RADIATION (Where Applicable)

Where a scan involves ionising radiation:

  • Exposure is justified and optimised in accordance with EU and Irish radiation protection law.
  • Services are regulated by HIQA as the competent authority for medical exposures in Ireland.

Diagnostic reference levels and safety controls are applied to minimise risk.

9. Appointments, Cancellations & Fees

Payment is usually required in advance.

Cancellations or rescheduling:

  • More than 48 hours before appointment – full refund or reschedule.
  • Within 48 hours – fees may be retained.

We may cancel appointments for clinical, safety or operational reasons, with a full refund or alternative offered.

10. Confidentiality & Personal Data

Your Personal Data, including health data, is processed in line with:

  • Data protection law.
  • Medical Council confidentiality obligations. 

Information is shared only with:

  • Professionals involved in your care. or
  • As required by law.

11. Complaints & Open Disclosure

We operate a formal complaints process.

Where a patient safety incident occurs:

  • It will be managed in line with Medical Council guidance on open disclosure.
  • Patients will receive honest, timely and compassionate communication.

12. Limitation of Liability

Nothing in these Terms limits liability for:

  • Death or personal injury caused by negligence. or
  • Any liability which cannot be excluded by law.

Subject to the above our liability is limited to the fee paid for the relevant service.

We are not liable for diagnosis or treatment decisions made by others or outcomes arising from clinical management beyond the scan itself.

13. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of Ireland, and disputes are subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the Irish courts.
